got 256 democrats led by nancy pelosi in the senate and 60 democrats in the senate -- super majorities in both houses. i and otheres saw the likelihood the republicans will lose another three or four senate seats. there were no democrats we comeht were -- might not back then you had 2010. the republicans took the house with the rating -- with the reagan republican majority. which is not much more than gingrich had. and strengthened in the senate, and not to filibuster on anything he wanted to. and a weakened president because people voted against him based on his agenda today. what the democrats and republicans each hoped out of 2012 was, republicans thought they would finish this off and we did a straight line from 2008 to 2010 and now in 2012 we win the presidency and the senate. democrats thought the republican house was just a fluke. this was just a tea party thing, they will be swept out with the tide. almost all kickback -- cameback so we have these competing narratives. obama wins with a shrunken market. anybody else who won a second term that a larger merger -- margin of victor

not. in late 2007, george bush goes to nancy pelosi and harry reid and says i need a stimulus because the economy is in trouble. unlike mitch mcconnell the center right, let's work one out you can live with. so they did a stimulus with him rather than saying the economy slipped for us. in 2008 we do that t.a.r.p. together. bipartisanship in america ended in january 20, 2009, with mitch mcconnell say now my new job is to sit the president. even then we had a constructive two years. the breakdown is fairly recent and it's because the tea party, the extreme right took over the republican party, intimidated people that i'm optimistic for two reasons. first i think reality will be better. i think you'll see the health care bill provided benefits, financial reform bill provides stability in the sun will still go up in downtown new york in the morning and there still be very, very rich and have her money than anybody needs. but then there's the question, how will the republican party react? there's still a pretty people who say let's be conservative, but let's back up on some of this anti-im
